Boarding

Boarding at AIC

At AIC boarding we aim for students to develop inter-cultural understanding, independence and a sense of community.

AIC Tower and Loft are managed with clear guidelines for AIC boarding students. The supervisors who care for the students are from a variety of countries and are a professional and caring group of adults. In addition to the work of supervisors, a counsellor is available to talk confidentially with students. Several leadership opportunities are available to senior boarders and a house competition is encouraged.

AIC has two modern boarding houses; AIC Tower is a 10 minute walk from the main school, and AIC Loft is located on the top two floors of the College itself. AIC Tower is a multi-level building; the first level is dedicated to AIC girls in Year 11, while levels two to eight are for boys. All students share twin rooms which are equipped with modern facilities, including ensuite shower rooms which up to 3 students share. AIC Loft accommodates girls sharing twin rooms with bunk beds.

Facilities:

AIC boarders have use of both boarding and the school's facilities, including: IT suite, library, fitness room, pool table, BBQ area, music practice rooms, TV and games room. Central city attractions like the Domain for recreational sport and the University of Auckland library as well as shopping on Queen Street are all close by.

Boarding staff supervise prep for students every evening from 7.30pm - 10.00pm. Both the Loft and Tower have internet facilities and email access is available for student laptops via limited wireless connections.

Meals:

AIC Boarders enjoy a catering system which blends nutritional needs with the dietary preferences of our student population. Our catering team is able to cater for a wide variety of special needs including religious, vegetarian and most allergies.

A high priority is placed on meeting the 5+ fruit and vegetables per day and students are encouraged to make healthy choices. Fruit and bread are available after school for students. Facilities are also available in both the Tower and Loft for students to prepare their own hot and cold drinks, snacks and special food.

Breakfast is available every morning in both dining rooms with a selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, toast and spreads as well as a variety of hot rice, miso and boiled eggs through the week.

Lunches are delivered to the school cafeteria, and students make their own sandwich style lunch twice a week.

Dinners are served in the dining rooms every evening. For a sample menu please click here
