Pastoral Support
AIC provides students with a number of staff who can offer them help and support. Students are allocated a teacher to be their personal mentor, who meets regularly with a small group of students and takes a personal interest in each of them during their AIC education. Each year group has a Dean of Students who is also available for all types of support ranging from teaching pastoral classes to giving guidance. Boarding students have live-in supervisors. The College also has a counsellor who provides a confidential service to students who feel the need to talk to someone with professional experience in counselling. In addition, Year 11 students participate in a pastoral programme as part of their formal curriculum. All students attend assemblies and participate in CAS activities which promote the IB Learner Profile attitudes: Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Balanced, Inquiring, Risk-takers, Reflective, Knowledgeable, Thinkers and Communicators.

When joining AIC, students participate in an orientation programme to prepare them for studying at the school and in the case of overseas students, for boarding and for living in New Zealand. This programme introduces students to AIC’s facilities and services, gives students a chance to meet and interact with their fellow students and participate in a range of activities in the day school and boarding.
