Student Successes

Another Ivy League Acceptance

Victor Li has been accepted to study Environmental Science at Dartmouth.

Victor has been the leader of our school’s Environmental Concerns Club, and  organizer of major events such as the Sustainability Camp and Urban Youth Summit,  a chosen representative on the Sir Peter Blake Youth Environmental Forum, and on the Auckland City Youth Council.    He is also an excellent sportsman and debater, and as a highly talented academic, has been first overall in both Y11 and Y 12.

Oxford bound
Mudita Haria has received an offer of place at Oxford University, to study Chemistry.

This is the fourth year in a row that AIC students have received offers of place at an Oxbridge university, with Natalie Kim having received an unconditional offer from Oxford last year, and Will Scarrold (2007) and Naomi Jones  (2006) both studying at Cambridge University.

Ivy League Acceptance
Our first Ivy League acceptance this year is Hee Suk Byun, who has been accepted into the University of Pennsylvania  (#11 in the world according to the “Times Higher Education” ranking list 2008.)  Only about 45 students per year are accepted into this highly selective and prestigious business programme, so this is a magnificent achievement.  In selecting students, US universities are looking for three things:  high academic achievement (both in SAT and IB Grades), excellence in a wide range of extracurricular activities, and personality.  Hee Suk is our Head Boy, and also a top academic who has earned a place on the Dean’s List every semester.  Congratulations, Hee Suk.

Natalie Kim, our 2008 Dux, has achieved the perfect score in the May IB examinations.
The IB is scored on a 45-point scale, and perfect scores are rare.  Last year, in the May 2008 IB examinations, only 74 students worldwide (0.19%) achieved the perfect 45 out of 45.  Natalie has studied at AIC for Years 11 to 13, and won the top academic awards each year.  For her IB examination, she took Higher Level English A1, Economics, History and Mathematics, and Standard Level Japanese and Physics.  She did an Extended Essay in the field of History.  Natalie received offers to study at a number of prestigious universities, including an unconditional offer to Oxford, and is now on a full scholarship studying at Princeton University in the USA.
