Fifteen year old Roger Rao, Year 11, has become the Table Tennis New Zealand Under 19 Boys Champion. Roger has been playing table tennis for four years and has already won a number of national titles.

In 2008 he was part of the winning Under 13 Boys Double team; in 2010, in a major upset, he won the Mens Open Championship, a feat unlikely to be repeated by a 13 year old. Roger says the sport is a great way to make friends and to see the world. He has represented Oceania in India, Germany, Sweden and Puerto Rico. He trains for around 10 hours a week and plans to keep at it. While Olympic selection is unlikely for table tennis players in NZ, there are some very fine colleges in the United States offering table tennis scholarships. Science and table tennis at Stanford?
