Entrance Criteria

AIC operates a selective entry admissions policy, based on the requirement that students demonstrate a self-motivated attitude to learning and based on English and Mathematics placement tests. This ensures students will thrive in the IB curriculum and will be successful in gaining admission to quality universities in New Zealand and overseas.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma

Students are required to have successfully completed their secondary education up to the equivalent of New Zealand Year 11 or successfully completed the Preparation Year Programme for IB Diploma with a grade average of 4 and a minimum Research Project grade of C. Overseas students need to have commenced Year 12 with a minimum Academic IELTS level of 5.0 or TOEFL iBT total minimum score of 35.

The minimum age recommended by IBO is 16. However under exceptional circumstances AIC would consider an applicant aged 15 years at the start of the school year.

Year 12 Entry:
Due to a high demand for Year 12 entry, there is only a limited number of places available each year for Year 12.  Applicants are therefore advised to apply for the Year 11 programme in order to secure a place later on in Year 12.  Please note, subject selection priorty is always given to internal Year 11 students transferring into Year 12.

Direct Entry Year 12 Mathematics Policy:
Due to the variability of prior learning in Mathematics, direct entry Year 12 students must commence in a  standard / higher (SL/HL) combined Mathematics class for their IB Diploma programme.  All combined SL/HL Mathematics students will be tested at the end of term 2 to assess their suitability for higher level.  Therefore direct entry Year 12 students must choose 3 HL subjects, not including Mathematics.
